Artist statement

Nanna Katharina Jensen (b. 1987, Denmark)

My practice derives from a puzzledness by the philosophical, psychological and spiritual mysteries of the human mind. The mental waves between the physical existence/being in present situations and the mind. I’m occupied with emotional unconformities as awkwardness, anxiety and the fear of disclosure. Religious and spiritual tools of seduction and manipulation, the utopia of honesty, lifes biggest questions as a primordial corny human effect of being and all the non-answers that answers all these unknown facts and questions.

At the moment my work primarily takes its form in installation. Installations that consist of various combinations of sound, video and sculptures. Materials for me is tools for creating new materials, to challenge the materials to be something that they are not - new-materials.

I’m interested in audience interaction and movement. And the creation of spaces to enter, as physical rooms or through sound, video and light, to create intimacy between the viewer and the work.
